In Nov 17 our lives changed forever. Our precious daughter, Pearl suffered 12 seizures in one day and another 9 the following day. After 3 days in hospital we left being told that our daughter had epilepsy and we were given a little bottle of medicine, and that’s were our journey began. 14 months on and 6 medications later and we are still no closer to controlling her seizures and have now been told Pearls epilepsy is drug resistant.

Ironically just a week or so before Pearl was diagnosed, Mark and I ran the Gosport Half Marathon (in a bloody good time too😉) however since then my running has gone out of the window, I’d want to spend every minute of every day by her side if I could. Although this has proven not be so good for her or me. But now I have a purpose to run again to help raise money for an amazing charity that helps our families like ours. 

Epilepsy is pretty crap to live with, especially if the seizures are not controlled, they can happen anywhere, at any time and when they are happening to your child it sucks! Watching your precious baby struggle for breath, her body jerking uncontrollably, I don’t think it will ever get any easier. But we are hopeful that in time we will find something to work for Pearl, we have a 5% chance that medication will work for her so we are looking into alternative options such as the Ketogenic diet or even in the future maybe surgery. 

Pearls condition effects us all hugely as a family, especially our older daughter Ruby, having said that she is absolutely incredible with her sister. Our lives aren’t easy now and many times we’ve questioned why us but we are an unbreakable force and will do everything in our power to help Pearl live as normal life as possible.
