I think we are all incredibly moved by the “Clap for our Carers” event that takes place every Thursday evening at 8pm. We are so grateful for the NHS and our caring heroes during these extraordinary times. After the first Thursday evening of clapping I was inspired to do something to help. That night I got a message from my friend Nicky, a nurse in the Infectious Diseases Unit at The Western General Hospital in Edinburgh who by chance, had arrived home from work at exactly 8pm that evening. She told me about the emotional moment when she opened her car door to hear the amazing applause of appreciation from everyone in her street and neighbourhood. As I conjured up the scene in my head, the first spark of an idea for this painting was born.
