Fundraising for The Royal British Legion
Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In September 2018 I am taking part in the Great North Run, to raise money for The Royal British Legion who support past and present service men, women and their families. I have vivid memories of my Grandpa selling poppies every year as part of the Poppy Appeal, and I will therefore be running in his memory, to carry on the fundraising he did.
The Royal British Legion provide a whole host of support avenues for Armed Forces personnel, including but not limited to;
-Recovery support; the Battle Back Centre provides sports and adventurous activities for wounded, injured or sick service personnel as part of a rehabilitation programme for physical and psychological injuries
-Respite; children’s adventure weekends, family holidays and break centres are accessible to all personnel in order to provide quality time with family and help to take away some of the stressors of daily life
-Financial Support; money and benefits advice, grants and support can all be accessed through The Royal British Legion, including support for equipment such as wheelchairs and orthotics (if NHS provision does not meet the need and the MOD warranty is expired) and home adaptations. They also provide support for skills development to enable access to employment on entering civilian life
-Care; The Royal British Legion have 6 exclusive care homes that provide short and long term care for ex-service men and women, as well as working alongside Admiral nurses to provide quality dementia care. A ‘Handy Van’ scheme also enables free of charge small home repairs to be completed, including the fitting of minor aids such as grab rails
Due to the huge array of support The Royal British Legion offers, fundraising is so important to enable them to continue to provide services for the men and women, and their families, who have served in the Armed Forces.
Any donation you can give, is so gratefully received and will enable them to continue to support those who put their lives on their line to give us our today, and those that live on with service related scars be it physical, mental or emotional, as well as their families.
