Story
Me, Kat & Mel all met each other in 2018 when we were all admitted to the mount, mother & baby unit in Leeds, after we all suffered from severe postnatal depression & anxiety (& the rest 🤷♀️).
We clung onto each other & we have helped each other through life's changes along the way.
Unfortunately, Mel was dealt a double edged sword & was diagnosed with a fast growing lymphoma in April 2019.
Mel underwent chemo for several months, with many crappy side effects. Unfortunately after a short break from chemo, her CT showed that the cancer had grown back very quickly.
Luckily she has a great consultant who has found a more suitable chemo type. She also has a stem cell harvest & transplant planned for the next few weeks, which will give her the best chance of beating this 💪
Mel has shown great strength throughout the shitness! She has dealt with so many complications, including sepsis (at christmas!!!). She never complains (apart from an itchy wig & discoloured pube regrowth 😂 (dont kill me)).
This is the first time I have been close to someone with cancer who is my age (younger). I cant believe it & it just isn't fair. Mel is a young mum & her daughter is just Fred's age. But with thanks to Anthony Nolan charity she will get the right stem cell transplant which will "sort this."
I am going to run the Great north run (half marathon) on 13th Sept 2020. I hope by then my feet wont fail me. But even so, I'm pretty sure I'll still do it. It will be nothing compared to what Mel has had to endure.
Please support me with this event, in any way you can. It will be massively appreciated.
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
