Firewalk for Phyllis Tuckwell · 5 November 2017 ·

For over 40 years Phyllis Tuckwell has been supporting and caring for patients and families who have been given the worst possible news in West Surrey & North East Hampshire. We rely on the support of our community as we have to raise over £25,000 every day to continue our amazing services.

Story

I completed my fire walk and have slightly sensitive soles plus a big smile, see photo and if I can load it the video :)

I have for several years been getting back on my feet after severe anxiety driven depression and being diagnosed with fybromyalgia. As part of this on going challenge I have been working part-time at a local chemists, or pharmacy as it's now know, for 9 months and have come across people for who Phyliss Tuckwell has made the world of difference.

If I raise enough money I will be Firewalking barefooted over a bed of hot wooden coals. A combination of pine, ash and oak is burnt and then broken down into a smooth red hot path of embers. The lane itself is between 15-20ft long and 2-3ft wide. During the course of the burn down the temperature of the fire reaches over 1236° Fahrenheit and when it comes time to walk on the coals the fire lane will be burning at a core temperature of over 400-600° degrees Fahrenheit.  This all feels rather surreal and crazy even though I get training seminar beforehand.

To help find the courage to do this I remind myself what an amazing cause Phyllis Tuckwell is.  They are the only Hospice Care service for adult patients, and their families, across the whole of West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire, in the Hospice, at the Beacon Centre, in patients’ own homes and in the community.

For many patients, when a cure is not possible, Hospice Care helps manage pain and improves the quality of life for both the patient and their family. Seeking care through Phyllis Tuckwell isn’t about giving up hope or hastening death, but rather a way to get the most appropriate care in the last phase of life…

because every day is precious

Please donate what you can and help me to raise funds for this life changing charity.

Even if I don't raise the £150 required to do the firewalk, which could be a relief, any money raised will go to Phyllis Tuckwell hospice care.
