I will be volunteering in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia for 8 weeks this summer. I'm going to be working with Alalay, an organisation which aims to reintegrate street children into society. Bolivia is the poorest country in South America, with several hundred thousand children living on and working on the streets. A quarter of these are aged 3-11. Many of these children resort to informal labour such as sweet-selling, begging, or prostitution, and often become addicted to drugs. They are therefore faced with a bleak future. 

Alalay gives these children a home and gets them back into school, helping them to reintegrate into society. I will be involved daily in their education and helping with their personal care, as well as organising activities and workshops for the children to build their confidence. I am hoping that my work will be directly beneficial to the local community.

I am volunteering through Icye-UK, an international organisation which encourages young people to experience living in different cultures and transfer their skills to communities in need abroad. I will be living in Santa Cruz with a host family.

In order to fund my flights and the costs of living abroad, I need to raise £2000. Please help me reach my goal!
