We raise funds with minimal overheads to run our children's refuge in Peru

Story

We know that there are a lot of deserving charities but we need just a moment to tell you about Project Peru, the charity that we are going on elective with in October. Project Peru is a small British charity that has set up a refuge for children and young people who can't live with their parents for whatever reason and helps them to gain independence. The refuge is in Zapallal,a shanty town just outside of Lima, and has grown to become an integral part of the community. Not only does Project Peru need to cover the daily expenses of the refuge, including employing local staff,  but it also covers each child's school matriculation fees, uniform and equipment costs, as well as supporting other community initiatives within Peru.

So there is no question that this is a good cause!

To help raise money, we are trekking the Inca Trail (a 4 day trek through the Andes). This will be a massive challenge (especially for 2 slightly unfit students) during which we will ascend to altitudes of over 4000m. So if you would like to donate then please sponsor us as much as you can. We appreciate that most of you are students, but with half of Peruvians living on less than 1 US$ a day (around 50p) even a small amount of your money will make a huge difference to the daily lives of these children.  NONE OF THE MONEY YOU DONATE THROUGH THIS SITE WILL GO TOWARDS FUNDING OUR ELECTIVE - all of it will go to Project Peru, to help fund current and future work.

We will post training updates and photos to let you know our progress.

Thank you for your support!

UPDATE: We are officially running in the Adidas 5km run in London in September. Training has begun, however sporadically we actually do it!

The concert we held on Friday 18th July was a great success so thank you to those who came along! We raised over £200 for Project Peru and COSMIC (Children of St Mary's Intensive Care).

---------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you to all the ICOS and MTSoc-ers who performed at the concert in Budleigh Salterton in Devon on Sunday 3rd August. It was enjoyed by all and raised over £300 for PP so many thanks go out to you all!

Adidas 5km Women's Challenge on Sunday 7th September - Hyde Park.  Well we ran the 5km challenge yesterday, and luckily the rain stayed away! It was actually a lot of fun and we finished in a record time (for us!) of 35mins. Check out the photos!

Christina's mum Sarah Ferdinand has also decided to raise money for the charity by undertaking the Inca Trail. Let's just say that mum is pretty nervous!! So please sponsor her too!! Otherwise I might not actually convince her to climb it!! ;) xxxx

-----------------------------------------------------------------

We got back from Peru about a month ago and we have now exceeded our fundraising target! So thank you so much to everyone that has already donated. However, we would obviously like to raise as much as possible for PP so please continue to donate if you can. Having spent time at the refuge, we know just how important the work of the charity is for the children there. We completed the Inca Trail as promised and if you would like to see any photos then give either me or Jenny an email. Thank you all once again!
