Jenny and Xanders Adventure Against Dementia

My walk for Alzheimer's Society · 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 ·
What are we doing?
Xander and I will be walking the length of the Jurassic Coastline from 8/8/20-22/8/20
Why are we doing it?
My Grandmother (Gangan to family) passed away from Dementia on Thursday 9th July, 2020. My family slowly watched a woman so vibrant and full of life, deteriorate over a short space of time, due to this cruel disease. She was my closest friend and ally. Whilst I am hurting, deeply, I want to turn something negative into something positive, by walking approx 125 miles, with my 3 year old, in 10-11 days total (not including breaks!)
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Where could some of the money that you raise go?
• The target of £1000 for example would bring 1,000 people living with dementia together with their local services through our online Dementia Directory. The Directory is incredibly easy to use - simply enter a postcode and find the right support in the area. The services are Alzheimer’s Society’s and any others that are available that can help.
• It would also put a Dementia Adviser on the road for a year. A community-based Dementia Adviser can help people come to terms with their diagnosis and navigate the care and support that is available to them from the familiarity and comfort of their own homes. It is critical to get these expert advisers from A to B in their local area to provide this direct support.
• So too could it begin 1000 people’s Dementia Connect journey with a call from one of our telephone-based Dementia Advisers. This first contact with a person living with dementia, their carer, or family member is the initial step in understanding how we can best support them.
