Story

Firstly thank you for taking the time to visit our page.

‘You never get a place in the ballot’ says just about every one you ever ask about applying for the London Marathon. So upon checking my emails on a Friday evening (after a few glasses of wine) I spotted one advertising the event. Without giving it too much thought at all I hit the apply button. I had all but forgotten about it until a week or so later, another email arrived, this time confirming my place. I had not thought this through. Ten minutes later my brother Will messaged to say he also had a place and would be joining me for the run (well not quite, he will be done and in the pub at least an hour ahead of me I am sure. That is if I manage to reach the finishing line at all!). Anyway the next thing we know our entire family is booking hotels and it’s happening, no going back now.

I am not sure if it was happiness or horror that followed thereafter. And quite why I have waited until the year I have turned 40, post three children, everything starting to ache, to run 26 miles…. I am petrified but here we go.

We are running the marathon in loving memory of our dear uncle Rob (known to many in Coventry as Father Bob) and my husband Leon’s dear uncle Frank. Both of these men worked tirelessly all of their lives to serve their communities and help others; Rob at St John Fisher Parish in Wyken and Frank running Christ the King social club for over 30 years. Both loved a joke and were the life and soul of our very close families. Rob and Frank, both in their late sixties, still had so much energy and so much to give until cancer took them from us far too early. Like ours, so many families are impacted every day by this disease and so we have chosen MacMillan Cancer Support as our chosen charity.

We are very honoured and privileged to run for this deserving charity.

Macmillan gives people with cancer all of the support they  need. ‘If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.’

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe. JustGiving will never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.

Thank you. Your donation and support means a lot to us.

Xx
