Dorchester Abbey's Dorchester Festival is raising money in 2024 to support both the Abbey and Restore, which supports individuals to live with increased freedom from the constraints of mental ill health, through therapeutic activity, coaching and learning.

Story

I Did it! Actually quite fun once I had done the scary stepping off the tower bit. Big thanks to Kevin our calm and confident instructor, to my fellow abseilers and to all of the generous people who have sponsored us. group total of over £13,000 so far.

Well this is WAY outside my comfort zone which might be a good reason for doing it (I will be eating brussels sprouts next!). The tower is scary and 100 ft. tall and seems to have got taller since I said I would do this (see picture) but I seem to have got arm-twisted to abseil down it (thanks Steph!!!) and am actually looking forward - I think!

Anyway it is for two very good causes:

1 PACT (parents and Children together). Is a charity founded in 1911and seeks to create stable families for children who have suffered neglect or physical, emotional or sexual abuse from their birth families. Such a tough start in life often leaves children with severe emotional difficulties making them difficult to place for adoption through the usual channels. PACT families are supported for life, and money raised from the Dorchester Festival will go towards supporting this work. see http://pactcharity.org

2 Dorchester Abbey where I have the immense privilege of being Organist and Musical Director is a wonderful building of national historical and architectural importance which houses an equally amazing  community which has impressed me with its welcome, kindness, energy and generosity of spirit. Dorchester Abbey is also one of South Oxfordshire's main venues for music making. Money raised from the Dorchester festival will keep this unique place here for future generations.
