Brighton Marathon 2010 · 18 April 2010 ·

Ovingdean Hall Foundation is a grant-making organisation which supports education projects for deaf children and young people. We have funded music workshops, outreach programmes, a play area, school library and sensory room. Please support our work with deaf children. Thank you.

Story

Dodgy knees permitting I will be running the first ever Brighton Marathon on Sunday 18th April 2010 and will be raising funds for the Ovingdean Hall School Trust.  Many of you will be familiar with Ovingdean Hall School, which has been providing a wonderful education for deaf and hearing impaired young people since 1945.  I have been a Governor and Trustee at Ovingdean Hall School since 2000.

Unfortunately the School will be closing on 31 July 2010.  Difficulties with local authority funding for pupils means that the Trust cannot afford to keep the School open past the end of the summer term.  However the Trust will continue to support deaf and hearing impaired young people.  The short term goal is to find suitable alternative educational provision for all current pupils at the School and to make sure that they all have a memorable final term at Ovingdean.  In the longer term it is anticipated that the Trust will provide bursaries or grants to deaf and hearing impaired young people to ensure that they obtain the best possible education.

Please give generously and think of me whilst you read your sunday papers on the 18th!
