Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - it's all about my 2012 London Marathon challenge to raise at least £2,000 for Save the Rhino. I'll be running in the Marathon (it'll be my first marathon) and hopefully in a crazy Rhino costume too! It would be fantastic if you would sponsor me - please be as generous as you can and any contribution you make will be greatly appreciated.

April 2012 is going to be a very tough month for me and so are the 6 training months leading up to it. To be honest I've already started my training (1 July 2011) and so far so good, although I could do with a personal trainer or coach I think! All the money I raise is going to Save the Rhino to support them in their invaluable conservation work.

Having supported animal welfare and conservation charities for most of my life I approached Save the Rhino because things are quite desperate as far as the Rhino is concerned. Raising as much money and awareness as I can is the best way I can help. Reachng £2,000 is going to be tough but I want to raise more if I can. I'm very grateful for your support and appreciate your contribution no matter how large or small it is.

Thank you,

Jeremy    (2 July 2011)

Many thanks to Reflections Spa & Leisure Club, Centre Court, Basingstoke for the generous donation of prizes for my raffle. (7 July 2011)

Big thank yous to Margaret Stacey, Mayenne, France for pledging £50.00. and also to Steve Barby, Horsham for his generous donation of £50.00. (8 July 2011)

Thanks to the Mercure, Southgate Hotel in Exeter for it's pledge of accommodation to offer as a raffle prize. (12 Aug 2011)

I blinked and it's now 19th Sept! It'll soon be time to properly start my training - I'm reasonably confident at this stage as I can do 14 miles ok. My biggest worries are picking up an injury and also hitting my fund raising target! OMG I'd better get me finger out!

Oh no! It's now 2nd Jan 2012! I've reached about 10% of my sponsorship target and have been able to run a few half-marathon distances in training without too much difficulty! I'm about to start training with some additional weight to try to condition myself for carrying the 10Kg Rhino costume!

Time is moving on and I'm stepping up both my training and fund raising now. Hopefully I'll be picking up my rhino costume on 27th Jan and will be able to get out and about to raise some funds. I'm also chasing up the raffle prize pledges as I want to get my raffle tickets printed very shortly. The support from people has been brilliant so far - thank you all who have donated or pledged to donate. I've got 3 school visits nearly confirmed now (I think talking to 3 primary schools is going to be the toughest part of this whole Maraton challenge if I'm honest!). 21st Jan.

29th Jan. Now have my Rhino costume for about 5 weeks to train and raise money with. Basingstoke Gazette has been out and taken photographs - hopefully I be in the local paper shortly. Now need to get serious about the training and fund raising! Thank you all those that have supported me so far.
