Story
Psoriasis is a condition that many people do not know about and one of which I am affected directly by. I was diagnosed from a very young age and from then on I have had to deal with the affects that the condition has on many aspects of my life. Due to this I have decided to fundraise, using my Tough Mudder to raise money for the Psoriasis Association which researches into finding new medications and hopefully one day a cure.
As many people don't know, Psoriasis is a auto-immune disease that affects both the skin and joints (Psoriatic arthritis). It affects only 2% of the population of the UK, and can occur at any age, peaking around your teens. My body's immune system produces inflammatory chemicals as if it was healing a wound and it results in a rapid growth of skin cells causing the scaly patches to form, that are both red and itchy. Scientists are still trying to understand the disease as currently there is no cure.
Growing up with Psoriasis, I have dealt with people commenting about it, looking at me oddly which have made me conscious of my skin, especially in the summer months. I have tried several medications from steroids, to topical's, as well as antibiotics but none of which have been successful. Many of the modern medications are too expensive too afford and bad side effects . So with the donations you make the association can further their research which hopefully would benefit not only me but everyone else who has it.
The Tough Mudder I am doing is a 5K obstacle course which will challenge me physically, but at the same time with me having so much fun. It will be my first time doing this and any sponsorship that you can donate will mean a lot to me.
Thank you Jess xx
