Story

I am getting ready for my next challenge which is to ride as many miles in the month of June for Cystic Fibrosis Care. I am aiming for over 250 miles on my electric bike in the 30 days.

I am taking part in another CF Care event to continue to raise funds for Covid-19 grants.

I will be doing over 250miles (over 400km) during the entire month of June on an electric bike pushing myself everyday for 30 days! It may seem easy on an electric bike but with my lung function it is still a big challenge for me.

This year I decided I would take part in the Great North Run to prove to myself that I can still achieve my goals even if it is a challenge with a low lung function and the use of oxygen. I last did the Great North Run in 2009 when I was a lot healthier and it was an incredible achievement then for me.

Since then Covid-19 has struck I have decided to take part in the CF Care virtual run along with many of my friends and family who want to help.

We are raising money for Covid-19 grants for those with Cystic Fibrosis and struggling financially in these difficult times. Cystic Fibrosis care usually offer out grants to those in need but they are additionally supporting people during this pandemic. They are requested by the CF teams and social workers, so funds go to those who need it most.

I have family and friends who work for the NHS and appreciate all key workers during this time. Since I am classed as a high risk vulnerable adult, I have been self isolating since the middle of March. I am fortunate enough to have somewhere safe to self isolate, which can not be said for everyone with my condition. I appreciate the NHS and charities like CF Care because they understand that even though I was born with a life threatening lung condition I still deserve the same care as everyone else.
