Story
Next week I will be joining my father and his friends as we embark upon a 1100 mile bike ride in 11 days, with 8 full time riders and 10 more joining on stages, all helped along by 6 generous back up drivers. We will visit all four countries of the UK, take four boats, one train and will slip in some dolphin watching at 5am one morning.
Although this page is registered under Youth Action Wiltshire, the first £1000 I aim to raise will go towards the Meningitis Research Foundation (http://www.meningitis.org/). A great charity whose research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia meant that I was fortunate enough to recover unscathed from this illness whilst so many children and young people are not nearly so lucky.
All further money raised will go towards the Martin Lawrence Memorial Trust (http://www.themartinlawrencememorialtrust.org), which was set up in memory of my grandpa in order to support projects in the UK and Africa that were close to his heart. Within the trust I intend for my fundraising to go towards Send A Cow initiatives, particularly ones centred around education. Hopefully I will even get to see the results of this on our family trip to scatter grandpa's ashes in Ethiopia later this year where we will visit a number of Send A Cow projects.
In January when I agreed to join dad, this cycle seemed so distant that I thought it wouldn't be a big deal at all but now with less than a month to go it is indeed very real and it seems it will be distinctly more gruelling than I had imagined!
