Amyloidosis is a rare, often fatal disease, caused by accumulation of protein fibres, amyloid, in the tissues. The Fund provides invaluable support for research and patients in the National Amyloidosis Centre at the Royal Free Hospital.

Story

Thanks for visiting our page 💜We're fundraising for the Amyloidosis Research Fund, a charity close to our family.

Amyloidosis is a rare, life-threatening disease which is progressive without treatment. The build up of abnormal proteins in the body causes significant damage to multiple organs (frequently the heart, liver, nervous system and digestive tract) and can lead to fatal organ failure.

The Fund supports the UK's National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC) at the Royal Free Hospital, which continues to carry out world-leading research and make fundamental discoveries about the disease, pioneer new methods of diagnosis and treatment, support patients and families, and raise awareness of Amyloidosis to increase early diagnosis and improve patient outcomes.

Our family have been impacted by hereditary Amyloidosis for generations. Although we've seen how destructive it can be, and have very sadly lost many loved ones, we've also seen the rapid progress of treatment in recent years thanks to the work of the NAC. Currently they are working towards a number of new treatments and possibly even a cure, which could have massive implications not only for Amyloidosis but for other diseases too, however the high costs involved in research and trials require continuous funding .

Your donation to the Amyloidosis Research Fund will go towards the specialised resources, staff, investigations and new equipment needed for the NAC to continue their amazing, groundbreaking work. Every gift of any size will make a real difference. Thank you! 🙏🏽💜
