Story

Many of the Travel Village Group's charity challenges have been set in an effort to support organisations that encourage a healthy body and mind, and June will be no different. Our chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Society, is a massively important one, aiming is to create a future where dementia no longer devastates lives. The Alzheimer’s Society offers assistance to individuals currently living with dementia and instilling a sense of hope for what lies ahead. The money we raise will be going towards helping people receive support coping with caring for a loved one, or those that are starting with signs of dementia. By supporting our efforts you’ll be helping to invest in ground-breaking research into better ways of treating and caring for people with dementia.

Our challenge this month is set in a similar style to the Challenge 2.6 efforts of 2021. Our team will be completing self-set challenges along the them of 2.6 or 26.

John Warr has challenged himself to do 26 hours of tennis, 26 miles of cycling, 2.6 miles of SUP, plus 26 sit-ups-a-day, throughout June.
Susan Hilton is doing 26 miles of cycling, and will work her way up to holding a plank for 2.6 minutes (156 seconds), throughout June.
Lilli Medlicott is doing 26 squats-a-day and 26 seconds of planking every day.

Jess Clayton will be taking part in the Alzheimer’s Society Trek26 hike in the Lake District on 10th June, which will be 26 miles.

If you think about it, we all probably know someone who is suffering from dementia, or supporting someone that is. Studies indicate that in the UK, the number of people affected by dementia is over 850,000. That’s approximately one in every 14 people aged 65 or above with dementia… and one in every six individuals aged 80 or older! We’re all living longer these days, which is why cases are all the more prevalent. Anything we can do to help support, for now and the future, is important to all of us.
