2017 Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon · 24 September 2017 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

In September (just eight weeks away from us deciding to take part! ) Adam, Jessica and Sophie will be tackling the Robin Hood Half Marathon in memory of our dear Grandma, Barbara who passed away in July following a series of strokes over the past three years. None of us ever having run further than 10K before, this is going to be a real challenge!

The first stroke which happened in 2013 affected her communication and thought process but she fought back and was able to continue living at home with the support of the family. Unfortunately in July of this year she suffered another stroke which took her into hospital and then another one three days later from which there was no recovery. She passed away surrounded by those who loved her on the 4th July.

Our Grandma was the kindest, most warm hearted woman who always put the needs of others before her own so we now want to make her proud by doing the same. We will be raising money for The Stroke Association, a charity committed to the research, treatment and prevention of strokes. Each year 100,000 strokes happen in the UK alone, equalling to approximately one stroke every five minutes. Research has the power to save lives and ensure people can make the best recovery possible.

We'd love to raise as much money as possible to support this research and help to make a difference to other sufferers of strokes.
