It's hard to ignore the heartbreaking stories of refugees who are risking their lives and leaving behind everything they have to escape war, violence and oppression in their home countries.  The images and stories which are constantly on the news evoke in me a great sense of sadness for those who are innocent victims of circumstances they can not control, and trigger a desire to do something to help.

Last year, I participated in this walk, and through all of the fundraising done by the walkers over 1 million euros was raised for the Dutch charity Stichting Vluchteling.   This year, I am organizing a team of colleagues, and we have a goal to raise a total of 4,000 euros. 

Although money will not solve the underlying problems, I believe that it can help to make the experience of some just a little less awful.
