Story

Welcome to my fundraising page for CoppaFeel! This June I will set out on a challenging, extraordinary and life-changing trek, all in the name of checking chests! I will be taking on 100km of the rugged and unforgiving Hadrian's Wall Country in a bid to raise funds towards CoppaFeel's life-saving mission.Your donations will not only support my fundraising target, but most importantly CoppaFeel!. They are on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that young people are regularly checking their boobs, pecs and chests and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something just doesn't feel normal. Thanks so much for your donation & support. To find out more about CoppaFeel! head to www.coppafeel.org

1 boob off 1 to go!

June 2020 I had been having shooting pains in my boob but I must admit I never checked my boobs on a regular basis and it was only when my daughter jumped on me that i found a pea sized lump in my breast. I contacted the GP but we were all living in lockdown and they were reluctant to see me they blamed it on hormones, but when I called back a couple of weeks later to say it was still there they booked me an appointment, at that appointment I was told that the lump felt and moved like a cyst so I would be referred to the local hospital to get it scanned, drained and to ignore all the signs about cancer.

It was then that I was scanned and the atmosphere changed in the room, the chatty radiographer became quiet and I knew there was something amiss, I went on to have a mammogram, straight into a room for biopsies where they placed two clips and another mammogram.

The scans had identified that I had breast cancer which was looking like it had also spread to my lymph nodes (I didn’t even know what they were!) I went on to have aggressive chemotherapy, surgery where they removed the lump and all of my lymph nodes in my armpit removed and radiotherapy! I was given the all clear the chemo had worked, all the horrid side effects were worth it and my hair was growing back.

Fast forward 20 months later and the scar from my surgery had changed I’d been having those shooting pains a couple of months before but the scans were clear. Then a lump formed on top of the scar tissue I instantly knew it was back, I was given an appointment at the clinic where once again I was told it was a cyst and a scan would confirm this and they would drain it but once again the tense atmosphere formed in the room, it was confirmed to be cancer and biopsies taken right away. The Lump was doubling in size daily and 4 weeks later I had a mastectomy which confirmed that it had massively increased in size and the whole breast was cancerous. I am now on a preventative chemotherapy which will mop up any tiny little cancer cells which may have tried to spread.

I am doing this trek because with the education that Coppafeel provides it will save more lives through early detection.

I need to raise as much as I can this trek will be a huge challenge for me, I will still be on chemotherapy but I want to challenge myself and take this opportunity to help raise funds for an amazing cause!

All those people that have said to me to shout up if I need anything well here I am SHOUTING up for your donations!
