Event: HOPEWALK2020, from 1 October 2020 to 31 October 2020
In memory of Jessi Sandy
HOPEWALK is a PAPYRUS event that takes place every October to raise vital funds for suicide prevention and to smash the stigma around suicide. We are encouraging people to plan a walk in a safe way with members of the same household.

Story

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under 35 in the UK. PAPYRUS is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide and believes that many young suicides are preventable. They operate HOPELINEUK, a confidential call, text, and email helpline for young people with thoughts of suicide or those concerned about a young person who may have thoughts of suicide. Every £5 raised can help pay for a potentially life-saving contact to HOPELINEUK from a young person wanting to stay safe from their thoughts of suicide.

Jessi had struggled bravely with mental illness for fifteen years. On 22.10.2017 she tragically lost her life to suicide, leaving her family and friends totally heartbroken. She was just 30 years old. The thing is, it's not just about suicide, it's also about a young life being gradually destroyed by mental illness for so many years up to that point.

We're walking to raise funds on 10th October, which is World Mental Health Day and to honour Jessi, who would be 34 on October 12th.

Thank you for supporting us with a donation to try to save other young people who feel so desperate.
