Story

For those of you who don't know my brother Jethro passed away on the 25th July 2019 and this year I have decided to complete a challenge in his memory with the support of my friend Melie. I'm very much doing this for myself and for my brother but as an addition I thought it would be nice to raise some money for a local charity that could help someone like Jethro.

I think it's important to be raw, to not skirt around the difficulties that Jethro faced in terms of mental health, addiction, lack of access to a home, to feeling safe, to fulfilling his potential.
It's important to face these and make these issues less 'underground' or hidden. Because they are real and the more we shy away from it the harder it is for vulnerable people to seek support.
That's why we want to be open and frank about Jethro's suffering, in the hope it may help others going forward.
Melie and I plan to adopt some of Jethro's suffering - to sit in the mud with Jethro and support him by experiencing some hardships in the way he did.

On Monday 24th July we plan to walk 106km along the coast from Camber Sands all the way to Ramsgate. Usually people take around 5 days to complete this walk but we will be walking continuously with the aim to complete it within 24 hours!

We will also be doing the entire journey completely in silence. Yes you read that right! No chatting together to get us through, no moaning, no sharing, no singing. We will only be able to communicate via notepad.

We hope that you'll agree that this is going to be extremely challenging. We're doing this to demonstrate how some people find it impossible to speak up about their problems despite having a voice.

But the difference is we are willingly doing this, and then we can return to the comfort of our homes.

We are hoping to raise some money towards a small local charity in St. Leonards

Their motto is 'practical services for complex lives'.
They provide holistic support to a wide range of vulnerable people. Some of the support they give include access to free dental care, a warm wellbeing centre, rough sleepers outreach teams, complex addiction help.

One amazing project seaview have is to put on a talent show which showcases some of the amazing gifts that people accessing these services have. Poets, singers, artists. People sleeping rough are valuable humans with love and gifts to give, if they only could get the right support.

If you would like to support us on our gruelling journey, or someone else going through a difficult time to get a little warmth then please consider donating to our cause.
