Story

I’m running the Olympic Park Half Marathon on February 10th 2019 to raise awareness about OCD and to raise money for OCD Action.

OCD isn’t what you think. It’s not the stereotype shown in hundreds of films and TV shows as something to find funny or throwaway. OCD is a clinically recognised disorder which affects around 1-2% of the population. It is debilitating and paralysing. People with OCD experience intensely negative, repetitive and intrusive thoughts, combined with a chronic feeling of doubt or danger (obsessions). In order to quell the thought or quieten the anxiety, they will often repeat an action, again and again (compulsions).

My wife Kim has suffered from OCD for many years and only relatively recently has begun to deal it, particularly since the birth of our daughter Johanna.

For details on her story please read:- https://www.intrusivethoughts.org/blog/ocd-isnt-think/

I’m running in support of OCD Action. Their vision is for a society where OCD is better understood and diagnosed quickly, where appropriate treatment options are open and accessible, where support and information are readily available and where nobody feels ashamed to ask for help - it's time to act.

Please give generously!
