Event: Raleigh ICS
We support young people around the world to confront the planet's most urgent crises

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In October I will volunteer for 10 weeks on a development programme in Tanzania. This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most. I’ll be working alongside volunteers from Tanzania, on a project that will tackle issues around education, health, livelihoods, strengthening civil society, and protecting the environment. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

I need to raise £800 for Raleigh International who are one of the respected development agencies that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work. You can check out their amazing work here http://www.raleighinternational.org/,

I’m doing a 5km run and you can keep track of how I get on here on my justgiving page. Any contribution from you will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries, so please dig deep!

£8 buys one shovel for a volunteer like me to use when digging foundations for bio-gas units, ensuring better health and a sustainable source of energy for a community.

£15 buys six pieces of timber to be used in constructing a kindergarten, giving children their first access to education.

£45 buys a good pair of walking boots for a bursary funded volunteer.

£150 could buy a water tank large enough to provide storage for clean water for a village of 250 people.

£260 builds one eco-sanitation unit for a rural community, which reduces the risk of disease and death due to water contamination.

Thanks for your support!
