2017 was a year that was filled with emotions on many levels and for many reasons.   Some good and some not so good.

My friend Helen Simonson lost her battle with cancer in September who was only a year older than me.  She was such an amazing person, kind and thoughtful and never had a bad word about anybody.  She was loved by so many as she had touched so many hearts throughout her life. 

I also have another friend who has been fighting this battle for over three years.  She has gone through numerous operations, chemotherapy and anxious times waiting for results.  She is a wonderful and very strong person who loves her family and has been through a very tough time.  I admire her strength and positivity she has shown for so long during this battle.   

2018 had become a year I want to achieve something way outside of my comfort zone and so I've decided to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.  

Walking 35km in one day will require a great deal of effort, strength, determination and digging deep (particularly near the end!).  This can only be a small percentage of the effort my two friends have endured during their battle.  

Cancer affected my life closer to home with my brother passing several years go who was kind, thoughtful and loved his family.  No-one is immune to this disease and the effects it has on families.  

I feel it's now  the right time in my life to set this challenge, go the extra mile and achieve this long walk in one day.  My goal is to raise £2,000 towards research and support Bowel Cancer UK would be a great achievement.  I am doing this with the help of my golfing friend Clare.  Hopefully we will keep each other company, have a few laughs along the way and at the end get that glass of bubbly which will be very much wanted and deserved!!
