Hello again,
The day dawned grey and cold in Cambridge, the most perfect running conditions. With over 13,000 runners taking part there was a wonderful atmosphere. I was accompanied to the start by my niece Anna and nephew Jack who are both the finest of athletes so they headed off in the first couple of waves while I waited for an altogether slower category! However I was getting a bit bored and freezing cold after they left so I snuck into an earlier holding 'pen' and set off with some scarily speedy runners. It's a really lovely route, lots of college greens, pretty streets and then out to the scenic village of Grantchester. Anyway enough waffle, I had a remarkably enjoyable run and completed it in 2.04 which I was thrilled with. Not quite a personal best, maybe next year!
Oh yeah, and the niece and nephew recorded times of 1.34 and 1.36 (one a PB), as I said they are sporty! My Irish niece Tory was also doing it and did get a PB of 1.34, amazing achievement.
Peter got a bowel cancer diagnosis at Christmas. Quick action by the NHS - scans and then 6 hours of surgery in January - meant that it was caught early enough and they managed to remove it all with no chemo necessary. We feel very fortunate and it has inspired me to run for Bowel Cancer UK.
We’re the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care. We’re here to stop people dying of bowel cancer.
