It is that time of year again..
The weather is brightening up and the outdoors are calling, it is again time to destroy my legs for a great cause.
Last year we raised £480 for Help for Heroes over a series of gruelling events. These events included mountain biking, road biking, road running and trail running. All boxed in by two Tough Mudder events in Scotland and Las Vegas!
This year I am staying a little closer to home and have selected five events that will not only push my legs to the limit but will also require every bit of mental grit I have.
Here they are -
Tough Mudder Scotland on the 17th June
Tough Mudder is a 12 mile obstacle course that will have me crawling through mud, climbing over walls and being electrocuted along side hundreds of well meaning (but obviously unhinged) fanatics.
Ingram Trail Run - Half Marathon on the 16th July
England’s most remote trail run! with over 2000 feet of climbing over open fell, this should be a real challenge. The payback will be the awesome scenery and all of your fantastic support.
Great North Run - Half Marathon on the 10th September
This will be my third time at the GNR. It is an iconic event and great fun to be part of. The support is always great and the sun always manages to shine on the day. If you in or around Newcastle, come on down to cheer on the 60,000 runners who take part!
Kielder Marathon on the 8th October
This is a 26 mile run over challenging and hilly terrain in one of the most picturesque areas of the north. Both Sara and I ran the half marathon at Kielder last year. We had a great day and couldn’t think of any reason not to keep coming back. We decided to double the distance in a weak (slightly inebriated) moment but are now really really looking forward to it!
Tweed Valley Ultra on the 19th November
This is the big one for the year. It will me my first 'ultra' marathon and hopefully the start of a step-up in my game when I plan next year’s events. This run is held in the tweed valley near Glentress and will hopefully feature a nice white dusting of snow. With a 50 kilometre distance and over 1000 metres of climbing, it will test me to the limit both physically and mentally. This is where your support will pick me up and drive me through.
All of these events will be tough, I will suffer cuts, bruises, blisters and general exhaustion but that is nothing compared to the hardship experienced by those who we are trying to help.
Help for Heroes supports the men and women who have suffered a life-changing injury or illness while serving their country. Through this fantastic charity, your kindness and support has made a huge difference to the lives of those who have served our country and also to the lives of those families that are left behind when our brothers and sisters do not return..
Please give generously and I will make sure I earn every penny you pledge.
Thank you for your support.
Jim
