We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

Back in March, a very close friend took his own life.

Olly had been struggling with depression for a while but it eventually got the better of him. He was 27.

He was stupidly ambitious, talented, funny and - at his peak - dangerously confident. He put his all into everything, including our student radio show which I'm pretty sure not even our parents listened to.

I could keep listing memories and adjectives but they all boil down to the same thing. I wouldn't be the person I am, doing the things I'm doing if I hadn't met him.

It's been a surreal and disorientating couple of months. But while it's clearly a heart-breaking loss - one of the things I've found most difficult to come to terms with is that he felt like he only had one option.

Suicide is the single biggest killer of men aged 20-45 in the UK - which is frankly shocking and scary. That's why I'm raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

It's worrying that it's taken something like this for us to do some exercise - I'm pretty sure Olly would rather us be at the pub doing a charity quiz or something. But on 12 July we're running 10km through London to remember him and to help CALM.

Anything you can give would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Jimmy x
