We fund pioneering research to prevent sight loss and treat eye disease

Story

In 1965 my Great Uncle Norman, Professor Norman Ashton CBE to most, founded the charity Fight for Sight to assist his work as a leader in research into eye disease to prevent sight loss.

Throughout my formative years I was further exposed to the charity as my mother continued to support Uncle Norman's work by fund raising for the charity.  During this time I was dragged to fundraising events and dressed in Fight for Sight branded everything to raise money for this worthy cause.

Over the years my links to Fight for Sight had diminished but my desire to eventually run a marathon grew until purely by chance I was offered the opportunity to reconnect with the Fight for Sight team through my younger brother Rob who has maintained contact with them over the years.

The chance to 'tick off' running a marathon while supporting a cause founded and supported for over 50 years by my family was too good an opportunity to pass up, despite only 10 weeks notice.

To ensure my efforts are not solely for my own self esteem and to provide the first of my personal contribution to a cause so closely linked to our family I am now looking to raise at least £4,000 to support Fight for Sight in their pioneering research to prevent sight loss.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and please feel free to come and watch me struggle around 26.2 miles of London (I suspect around the 19 mile mark will be lowest point for those looking to see me really suffer).
