Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Many patients after a stroke have to adjust their diet due to swallowing problems. A function that is so simple to us and taken for granted becomes very difficult and dangerous to those with stroke. To help make their swallowing safer and easier, a thickened diet is used and even water is drunk thickened. This is done for several weeks until their swallowing is better.

I want to experience for myself what having this diet is like. So, on May 27th, all of my meals will be thickened liquids.

We are a team of NHS staff dedicated to the care of patients with stroke. To support the Stroke Association "Make May Purple" each of us has picked a challenge (as individuals or smaller teams) in order to raise funds.

Due to the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 outbreak, the work of the Stroke Association is more critical than ever. From encouraging those with stroke symptoms to seek emergency medical help, through to providing peer and community support to stroke patients after they leave hospital, the Stroke Association is working closely with the NHS to keep stroke survivors safe in their recovery during this pandemic. The Stroke Association relies on charitable donations to undertake this important work. Please sponsor me in my challenge!
