JLL Student Housing Charity Challenge · 6 October 2022

Student Minds empowers students to build their own mental health toolkit. We also challenge the higher education sector, health sector, and government to make student mental health a priority. Together, we’re improving university communities so that no student is held back by their mental health.

Story

Student Minds is the UK’s student mental health charity. Our goal is to transform the state of student mental health so that all in higher education can thrive. We support students to develop the knowledge, confidence and skills to look after their own mental health, support their peers and create change. We also work collaboratively with institutions, students’ unions and other organisations involved in higher education, supporting them to take a whole-university approach to mental health.

Students experience a range of social, academic and financial pressures at university that negatively impact their wellbeing. For many students, it is also their first time living away from established networks of friends and family, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation. Around 1 in 10 respondents to HEPI's annual student experience survey (published in June 2022) had considered leaving university due to their mental or emotional health. Their research also found that 23% of students reported feeling lonely often or all of the time, with figures higher for Black, disabled, LGB+ and trans students.

On Thursday 27th April 2023 JLL's Student Housing team are planning to walk a mammoth 50km around the streets of London in aid of Student Minds, the UK's student mental health charity.

The work undertaken by Student Minds is crucial to our clients and their customers and the team are incredibly excited to take on this challenge. The route will take in some of London's finest PBSA buildings, starting and finishing in the west end. Please support generously!
