On July 13th I am running the British 10K to raise money for UCSB student scholarships to study abroad.
On May 23rd Chris Michaels-Martinez, a UCSB student, was shot and killed during that tragic night in Isla Vista. According to the L.A. Times, Chris planned to go to law school and was preparing for a year studying in London.
This run is very personal to me, as a UCSB Gaucho. I run in memory of Chris and to honor his father, Richard Martinez, who coined the phrase, "Not one more!".
The number one sited reason for students not pursuing study abroad is due to financial burdens. We all know the beauty and benefits of traveling.
"Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving" - Terry Pratchett
Thank you so much for your support and I will keep you updated with fundraising and training progress.
By the way, you can also sponsor me by texting UCSB95 £5 to 70070.
Peace be with you,
Jason
