Jamie's 29km swim challenge · 1 April 2019

Autism NI is Northern Ireland’s longest serving autism charity. The charity was established 35 years ago and exists to support over 35,000 autistic people and their families across NI. Our vision is an inclusive society where autistic people can achieve their full potential.

Story

Hello, my name is Jamie, I'm ten years old (I'll be eleven when I complete this challenge) and I have autism. I was diagnosed with autism in 2011 when I was three years old. The big giveaway was that I could spell 'TRAPEZOID' with my Countdown letters. Enough about me, let's talk about my challenge!

When I was seven years old, my mum was told I would never be able to swim, as I had a great fear of water. My mum then took me to a swimming class that was for autistic children, and I was able to swim when I was nine.

To show my determination to not let anything get in my way, I'm swimming the length of Lough Neagh in the Dunadry pool from the 1st to the 30th April. Please sponsor me for this great cause!!

Thanks!
