The Lakes Challenge · 30 May 2008

We fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. On 14 June myself along with a team of colleagues from Macfarlanes will be taking on The Lakes Challenge. This involves canoeing Lake Windermere (just over 10 miles - apparently this will take about 4.5 hours - yikes!), cycling the Langdale Valley, and climbing Scafell Pike - the highest mountain in England. And down again pressumably.

We are doing this to raise money for our charity of the year, Beating Bowel Cancer. Beating Bowel Cancer is a leading national bowel cancer charity which supports patients and carers, provides resources for medical professionals and promotes awareness of bowel cancer - a topic many people shy away from as it involves bottoms! However, a staggering 50 people per day die from bowel cancer in the UK alone - as such, obviously more needs to be done to promote awareness of this illness and to encourage people to seek help early. This statistic is particularly worrying as bowel cancer is curable if detected early.

A number of members of the Macfarlanes' Lakes Challenge team have had their lives touched by bowel cancer. As such, we aim to raise not only funds, but also awareness of this entirely curable illness. So, please dig deep and sponsor us online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Beating Bowel Cancer will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
