In memory of Adie Evans

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

I have opened a'Just Giving' page in memory of my husband Adie Evans.

Adie had a love of life, in his early years, he boxed and played semi pro football. He loved music, both singing and dancing.

Adie worked for West Midlands Police for 30 years as a police dog handler instructor. We met at 'Ceroc' dancing and in the following 7 years we moved in together, refurbished our home and on Dec 1st 2017 we married. An amazing day, life was good.

On the 20th may 2018 Adie was admitted to hospital after what we thought was a bout of food poisoning as he was being sick constantly. Doctors did their tests and to our dismay diagnosed pancreatic cancer. Not something we'd really heard of. We decided, we'd fight! For weeks Adie went through more tests, scans, X-rays, procedures and ended up in critical care, he fell at every hurdle...  the cancer was too advanced...

We left the hospital and returned home, palliative care was all that was left. Adie spent his last 10 days with the family he loved. On the 18th July 2018, Adie lost his fight for his life after a less than 8 week battle. It was devastating, we'd been married for just 7 months. He was my soul mate.

It is only now I know pancreatic cancer is incredibly hard to detect, the signs are easily overlooked and diagnosis comes late, as it was for us. It is one of the least funded cancers and survival rates are low.

I'm hoping by telling Adie's story it will help this cause and through donations it stops another family going through the heartache we as a family are going through.
