Story
Sullivan’s Heroes is a charity offering support and financial assistance for families raising essential funds for vital home adaptations for a disabled child, to continue to care for their child at home, safely and with dignity.
Wills is our gorgeous 10 year old boy, 5 years ago he was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. A muscular wasting disease that sadly has no cure and limited life expectancy.
Anyone that knows wills knows what a brave boy he is, we have endless hospital trips and wills always keeps his big smile on his face whatever he might be having done.
We are going to create downstairs living by converting our existing garage into a bedroom and wet room. We will be knocking through our downstairs toilet and extending the garage to be able to fit his profiling bed and his power wheelchair. At present we are having to carry him up and down the stairs which is extremely difficult as he’s very heavy due to medication he takes. Me and my husband both have to lift him in and out the bath which is not very dignified.
We are very fortunate that we have been awarded a DFG grant through our local authority which is £30,000 and a top up of £15,000 but we still need another £30,000 to be able to start the work.
We just want wills to have a home he feels comfortable in and which will give him a little more independence. We don’t know what the future holds for wills, Duchenne can be unpredictable and we just pray and hope we get lots more years with our gorgeous boy. Please help us .
