We support thousands of people living with terminal illnesses & their families, in our three hospices, via our patient & family support services, and in the community through Myton at Home. We need to raise £12.7 million this year to provide our services free of charge – we can’t do it without you!

Story

Late December in 2015 my beautiful wife Joe was diagnosed with HER2-positive Breast Cancer, a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer.  We spent that Christmas knowing that chemotherapy would start in 2 weeks, and although scary fully treatable with good and improving statistics.

January 2016 we were called back before treatment was to start to discuss the whole body scans taken - which show that this cancer was very much all over her bones with too many to count from the skull to her feet.  This was devastating news meaning that remission from Cancer was not going to happen.

Joe went through Chemotherapy then a mastectomy, which successfully treated the breast cancer.  Joe has for the last 4 years attended the Arden centre for ongoing treatment every 3 weeks, for intravenous antibodies to keep the Cancers in the bone at bay.

During this time she has beaten off infections that nearly claimed her left arm and another in her lung that again amazed the team looking after her.

July 2019 Joe had been developing further symptoms and after a scan we discovered that the cancer had now moved to the brain.  Joe faced yet more treatment of whole brain radiotherapy and suffered with the side effects more than ever.  She still continued to fight but the pain she was now in on a daily basis was too much to watch, let alone suffer.

All through this Joe has been the best mum, wife, daughter and friend to many.

Joe fought a fight any warrior would be proud of,

Love you always,

Throughout this whole time we have been supported by all at the Arden Centre at UCWH, the team on Ward 35, Macmillan, Myton and many others.  In ways you don't even think of before you start off on this journey.

Our family will be forever in debt to you for the years we had because of what you all do, thanks!
