Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On May 6th 2021, two things happened. I “won” a pair of free entries for the Royal Parks Half Marathon. And I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Fast forward a year and I have had surgery and radiotherapy and rather too many unpleasant things done to my boobs at the brilliant St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. My hospital treatment is complete but I do take drugs to keep those pesky hormones that fed my cancer under control.

Just before my diagnosis I ran my 7th half marathon. After minimal running over the subsequent months, I’m now slowly getting back to it. And my running buddy this time is my daughter Georgie. She doesn't like running all that much but she declared that if I was contemplating another half marathon after what I’d been through then the least she could do was move outside her comfort zone and join me!

The  Royal Parks half takes place on Sunday 9th October so training is underway. Most Saturdays you’ll find us at Highbury Fields parkrun, and then pounding the pavements whenever we have the time or inclination!

We have decided to raise money for Maggie’s Cancer Care centre at Barts. A sanctuary right there in the grounds of a busy NHS hospital, open for a cuppa, a friendly chat, for peace, for advice, for support. For people dealing with cancer and for their relatives.

If you are able, please consider donating to this amazing charity. Any amount would be very gratefully received and will spur us on in our training.

Thank you!

Jo and Georgie
