When my husband Dave was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer in May 2015 he found himself no longer able to work full time, he felt worthless. He said he'd gone from being a Commander in the Royal Navy, to a Vice President of a shipping company to a cancer victim. He really felt it. He knew he wouldn't be alone and several months later with the help of his friend Simon, Salesforce and some incredible volunteers, ASTRiiD was born. She stands for Available Skills for Training, Refreshing, Improvement, Innovation and Development. Her mission is to provide meaningful work for people with long term health issues and their care givers. She is a young charity, a work in progress and an incredible legacy and she is still only supported by volunteers. She was never going to be able to find a job for my darling Dave but she became it. She drove him on through his rare dark days, gave him his purpose back and something to concentrate on outside his illness. Without a doubt, he outlived his prognosis because of her. Shortly before I lost him in May 2018, we were talking about the London marathon and getting someone to run it for ASTRiiD. I told him I'd walk the Boston UK marathon instead. I'm crap at running plus I have a dickie ticker so need to be careful. He told me that no one would sponsor me as I was only walking it. Well, I need your help to prove him wrong! On April 14th, I will walk the Boston UK marathon for ASTRiiD along with my beautiful bestie @Emma Paterson and my lovely new chum and neighbour Sally aka @Splash Pixie . Please donate what you can and let's help make the invisible visible and just for Dave, I might jog over the start and finish line. 😜 Thank you.xxx
