In March 2014 Juliet sadly lost her long and fierce contest with her illness and died aged just 45 leaving an extended family including her 4 children the youngest of whom was then just 6yrs old. Family meant everything to her which is why I am running a Marathon on each of the 3 continents which linked  her and her family. She was born and lived in South Africa until she was 27 when she moved to England and where she lived with her husband and 4 children until she died last year. They were in the process of emigrating to Canada to join her parents, siblings and  their families when her health seriously deteriorated and they were unable to do so.

Yesterday I completed the 1st Marathon in Manchester accompanied by my son Shane (AKA Peter Parkorr).

The 2nd is in Cape Town on September 20th.

The 3rd is in Toronto on October 18th.

I was lucky to have been her friend for more than 10 years and was  also a work colleague. She worked as a doctor for 22 years in both South Africa and England making a huge impact on the health of many people.

Smile Train is an  amazing charity changing the lives of children (and some adults) by  funding surgery for cleft lip and palate..... letting them face the world with confidence. I have supported  Smile Train for  many years ...as a mother  and grandmother I can barely imagine the heartache of a family living in a country where this treatment is unavailable. £150 will fund the whole procedure for a child. The 1 millionth child has had their smile funded in the last year  by Smile Train but many millions are still out there waiting for this amazing treatment. On their behalf my sincere thanks for donating to Smile Train as a fitting lasting tribute to Juliet
