Marathon des Sables 2020 · 3 April 2020 to 13 April 2020 ·

A World With Friends was set up by teenager Lewis Hine after years of hospital left him feeling isolated, depressed and alone. AWWF helps disabled and poorly children who miss a lot of school come together and make friends. Having a friend to talk to improves your mental health and makes you smile.

Story

After over 2 years, 3 COVID cancellations and over 3000 'training' miles ran, its now only a few months until I'll be attempting to complete the Marathon Des Sables, a 152 mile ultra marathon spanning 6 days across the Sahara Desert, in 40+ degree heat, carrying a 9kg pack containing all my sustenance for the week, including food, sleeping bag and an anti venom snake pump...

It's called the 'toughest footrace on earth' for a reason.

But tough only goes to describe the lives many sick and disabled children across the world suffer not only with their illnesses but the isolation and social neglect they encounter by not having a normal school and home life because of their diagnoses. Not to mention the effect COVID has had on their lives.

A World With Friends is a charity that seeks to end isolation for these children. They put on social events every year (planned for 2022 because of COVID) with the wonderful annual prom being the highlight, this allows children and their parents to get dressed up, and engage with others for an evening of great food and dancing. Making friends in an environment they could only experience because of A World With Friends.

I am self funding this race, so your support via a donation to the charity would mean everything to me, and make the last 2 years and 3000 miles all the more worthwhile.

100% of all donations go straight to the charity. Much needed support after the few years the charity has had as a result of COVID.

Thank you for reading this far, again, your support really is massively appreciated!
