UPDATE TO THE BELOW. APRIL 2021

Covid-19 put a stop to my double marathon challenge and now its just a case of trying to complete a marathon following all of the injuries that I have developed. More of a challenge than ever!!!!!!

                                 ..................................................................

So 2020 is the year I turn 40 and officially go into the veteran category of races. I will be running the London marathon which also turns 40 in 2020 and so this is an extra special race for me. I have given myself the additional challenge of running the Manchester marathon just three weeks before London (Beause just running one marathon isn't crazy enough).

I am again running for Diabetes UK. Many people who know me may not know that my Mum is a type 1 diabetic and has lived with this for 47 years. Therefore I have lived all my life with diabetes in it. Over the years we have seen so many changes in the management of type 1 diabetes and how people with type 1 can live full and normal lives. Except for the need to either inject multiple times a day or have a cannula permanently attached to them.

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease, which means that antibodies attack the pancreas cells leaving it unable to produce insulin which controls sugar levels within the body. Without insulin our sugar levels would rocket, causing the body to go into ketoacidosis. In extreme circumstances this can lead to diabetic coma and death. Poor diabetes management can also have other life altering effects such as, blindness, blocking of arteries and nerves resulting in limb amputation or stroke.

Type 2 diabetes is usually caused by lifestyle choices and can, in most cases, be reversed with healthy diet and exercise. All money donated to Diabetes UK goes towards finding a cure for type 1 Diabetes and offering help and support to people living with diabetes and their families.

Please spare what you can to help Diabetes UK and me complete my 2 marathons in my 40th year.

Thank you
