Story
It has taken me a long time to pick a charity who I would like to run a marathon for. I wanted to find one that I felt connected with and within a few hours into my first shift at Weston Hospice, I instantly knew this was the one! I had never worked in a hospice before and it is nothing like I thought it would be! I have to say, as a nurse, it is one of the nicest places I have ever worked at. The care from each and every member of staff and volunteers is outstanding.
It makes me sad that they only get 20% funding from the NHS so this is why I would like to raise money for them because they deserve so much more. This will be my first marathon and I have been doing the gruelling training and getting used to aching legs!! I really hope I can help make a difference with what can be raised.
Receiving an end-of-life diagnosis can be difficult, not just for the patient but also for their loved ones. At Weston Hospicecare, our team of palliative care experts is dedicated to working together to provide specialist support. Our social, emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical care helps guide people through one of the most difficult experiences they will ever face. With only 20% of our funding coming from the NHS, we have to raise £4 million each year to fund our care - something that's only made possible by our community.
