Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am looking to raise funds for Marie Curie, in my beautiful nana’s memory.
My nana, Lillian Taylor (better know as Lynne), was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer on the 8th of April 2020 and sadly passed on the 27th June 2021. My nana was strong, independent and we are in complete awe of her every single day. My nana had support from doctors, nurses, and carers to allow her to stay in the comfort of her own home throughout.
The Marie Curie support was second to none between the regular check ins, the nurses & carers, the virtual networks, the support for families, we honestly could not fault it.
The virtual support groups were set up through zoom, every Tuesday, for those fighting illnesses to get together and be able to talk to each other freely and met new people. We were so thankful for these groups because as open a family as we were, this was a safe place for my nana to talk to other terminally ill patients & the nurses. There was also a virtual Christmas party, with Christmas bags that were dropped in to each patient from the nurses. This truly gave my nana something to look forward to every week, even more with her being in the house due covid & not seeing many people.
The nurses are worked through their paces and see so many different things, but we didn’t once come across a nurse or carer that didn’t have a smile or cheerful persona which is so important in these circumstances. Nothing was ever “too much” for these nurses.
We would like to give something back to Marie Curie, as the last 15 months would have been a lot more difficult without their help and I know that we aren’t the only family that has relied on them.
We have chosen this charity for my nana’s funeral donations to go to, we are also doing a follow up fundraiser on 31st July, and will be continuing to do raffles throughout.
Any donation, big or small, or raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated. No amount of money will ever be enough to show our gratitude for what Marie Curie done for my nana and our family, however I do hope it will make an impact to show how much they are needed, how appreciated they are and help contribute to more services.
