Captain Tom 100 · 6 April 2021 to 6 May 2021 ·
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect on charities, with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income. At a time when vulnerable members of society need them most, charities have had to cut services, furlough staff and some have even shut down. Captain Tom stepped up to help, taking on his famous walk to support the NHS Covid-19 appeal and inspiring millions to donate to the cause. We will be celebrating the extraordinary spirit of Captain Tom our way and help our chosen charity - Special Effect.
The pandemic has had a catastrophic affect on our young people and left them isolated during a crucial stage of the social development. For many, gaming has been their only form of social contact. Imagine not being able to do that because of a disability.
Special effect put fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games. By using technology ranging from modified joypads to eye-control, we're finding a way for people to play to the very best of their abilities. But they’re not just doing it for fun. By levelling the playing field, they’re bringing families and friends together and having a profoundly positive impact on quality of life.
