In 2020 my life was turned upside down. I suffered multiple
pulmonary haemorrhages, blood clots in my lungs, legs and abdomen, inflammation in my heart, severe back pain, fatigue and strange rashes. This time last year I could not stand for more than 10-20 seconds to even brush my teeth. 

I was diagnosed with Behchets Disease – it causes inflammation in the blood vessels (Vasculitis) so can cause symptoms anywhere
where blood flows in the body. (I ticked off quite a few!)  I have been lucky to have received excellent treatment which has made a massive difference to my pain, fatigue and function.

This disease is a rare disease affecting less than 1 in 100,000 (most of you will not have heard about it before my diagnosis- I certainly hadn’t and even some of my doctors hadn't!) There is no cure for it, only medication to limit and supress it. I hope to raise money to help raise awareness of the condition and help to find better treatments. I have set myself the maximum challenge in the Behcets to the Beach challange - 1114 Miles within 6 months- to push myself – this will be a significant challenge whilst I battle this disease and learn to manage the fatigue and reduced circulation in my legs - which causes swelling and pain with sustained activity.
