Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of my friends and family will know that in 2012 my late wife “Maggie” and I were about to undertake the John O Groats to Lands End on mountain bikes, unaided and towing trailers so that we could camp each night, no buildings, no B&B’s just rough camping, and all in aid of charity.
Sadly, just one week before our departure Maggie was diagnosed with Leukaemia, we as a family were devastated. After what can only be described as a courageous and dignified 3 years my dear wife lost her battle with cancer and passed away on Rememberance Day, the day after Oliver, our youngest son’s 12th birthday.
Early during her illness Maggie was placed on a trial drug, the kind of drug that the charity “Bloodwise” raise money for, important work and vital research to win the fight against cancer. It was then that I realised the sterling work that “Bloodwise” undertake for the benefit of all blood cancers sufferers and their families. The trial drug bought us (Maggie) the time we all needed as a family until a bone marrow donor could be found. Sadly the bone marrow transplant didn't work.
The support we as family received from “Bloodwise” was first class and everlasting, including a family trip to Paris Disney World. Bloodwise was instrumental in giving Maggie and us as a family another two christmases. In that extra time she was able to see Lewis win his Bronze Medal at the commonwealth games, she was able to see Oliver in his new uniform for secondary school and his 12 Birthday, some of the things most families take for granted.
So for me, I have to finish what Maggie and I started. I also want to use the opportunity to raise money and awareness for the brilliant charity “Bloodwise” who gave us as a family so much support and the life long lasting memories. With your help and support the money that we raise will give other cancer sufferers and their families the essential support in time of turmoil.
Thankfully one of my skiing partner’s Andy Derby (who was volunteered by his wife Janet) has decided to accompany me throughout, we will be doing 50 miles a day and in total doing a 1000 miles over 20 days. If I could ask, and if you can spare a little cash, would you please donate at the the following link, we will both be extremely grateful.
