We shall be walking from Stockbridge to Romsey (11 miles) on Sunday 10th October 2010 to raise funds for Mityana Projects. Do sponsor us or come and join us on the day!
Since 1977 there have been links between the Diocese of Winchester and the poverty stricken district of Mityana in Uganda. A charity has been set up which has the aims of relieving poverty, advancing education for children. Mityana Projects has been most successfully managed by the Revd. Dodie Marsden, Whitchurch Deanery, who has been an inspiration to all of us who have been fortunate enough to be involved with the scheme both here in Hampshire and in Uganda.
We are trying to raise as much money as possible to help Dodie in her aims and to practically support people, young and old, in one of the poorest regions of the world. Most families in Mityana have no running water or electricity and rely solely on a dwindling supply of wood as their main source of energy. The population in the district of Mityana is around 368,000 with over 60% under the age of 18 and an orphanhood of around 17%. One in ten will be HIV+. Life expectancy in Uganda is less than 45.
Even though we feel times are tough over here, I know you will give generously - in Uganda, life is a lot tougher still!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
