Story
I am running The London Landmarks Half Marathon in memory of my Grandad Ralph, who suffered a stroke back in 2015.
The stroke impacted his quality of life significantly. From running around with us grandchildren to playing football (and even managing 50 sit ups a day - so he said) he was suddenly physically restricted, which left him unable to complete day-to-day activities that many of us take for granted.
Although he was limited physically, he was still up to his old tricks (at my Nan's expense) but it was great to see he still had his sense of humour that we all knew and loved.
My Grandad recieved outstanding care from NHS nurses and care staff throughout his recovery, who made him as comfortable as possible whilst treating him with dignity and respect. They also provided brilliant support to my nan, who devotingly acted as his carer until the end of his life.
At aged 82, my grandad sadly passed away in 2020. He lived a long and fulfilling life, making countless great memories with family and friends.
In honour of him, I am aiming to raise funds for Different Strokes, a charity who champion the recovery of young people who have suffered strokes by providing them and their families with necessary resources, such as online and in-person support groups, an information phone line and be-friending services.
Any donations would be much appreciated to go towards this great charity.
Many Thanks,
Joe
