First Touch supports sick and premature babies cared for at St George’s neonatal unit in SW London. We fund state-of-the-art equipment and specialist staff training which are outside of the scope of NHS budgets, as well as a range of initiatives to support families during their stay on the unit.

Story

Over 95,000 babies are born premature or sick and in need of neonatal care in the UK each year. That’s 1 in 8 babies, or around 270 babies every day.

I'm not a father....one day that might happen and if it does then like all expecting parents i would want my child to be born healthy and live an amazing life. Unfortunately as you see from the statistic above that doesn't always happen. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to have a life...a good life, a life of love, happiness, dreams and aspirations. We can't say when that life ends but we should all be given that opportunity to live it, no matter how long it is, and not have it taken from us before it even begins. That is why i have decided to raise money for a charity that works to help premature babies and their parents.

So why First Touch?

I've chosen First Touch because whilst researching charities i felt that the money raised would go straight to funding life saving equipment which is greatly needed.

The neonatal unit at St George's Hospital cares for 600 babies each year. Many of the babies they care for have been born prematurely, with some mothers having only just reached 24 weeks of pregnancy which results in some babies having life saving treatment.

It would be great if we didn't have to worry about this but unfortunately we do. Hopefully after reading this you can help achieve my goal and any contribution would be amazing.

Below is a list of how much some equipment costs.
